Recycling

Great Reasons to Recycle:

It’s great for the planet. It conserves landfill space. And you can build cool things out of recycled products. Check out the Buddhist monks in Thailand who built an entire temple out of one million used beer bottles.

It reduces pollution and protects our natural resources. Less pollution means cleaner Great Lakes. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, recycling reduces waste discharged into lakes and rivers by 8,000 tons.

It saves energy. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, simply recycling reduces energy use by 40 billion BTUs.

It creates jobs. Additional recycling not only contributes a positive impact on the environment, it also has significant economic benefits. According to the Expanding Recycling in Michigan Report, prepared for the Michigan Recycling Partnership, increasing recycling efforts from the current level of 20 percent to the average of the other Great Lakes states (30 percent) would produce a total of 6,810 to 12,986 jobs, which translates into an economical impact of approximately $155 to $300 million.
